WHY IS BREAKFAST SO IMPORTANT?
BREAKFAST: It is the most important meal of the day
Are you a breakfast skipper?
Skipping breakfast sets up a pattern of under-eating during the first half of the day (when your body is programed to burn calories) and overeating during the second half of the day (when your body is programed to store calories), which is not ideal for your metabolism, energy levels or weight.
By not eating soon after waking up, you miss the chance to wake up your metabolism. And by waiting until midday to eat, you’re likely to eat too much, too quickly and the wrong thing. Repeating this pattern day in and day out, eventually sets up a habit of ‘not being hungry in the morning’, and the cycle continues.
So how do you break the ‘skipping breakfast’ cycle?
Start by eating less at night. Reduce your portion size, cut out carbs, eat more veggies and avoid diving into the treat cupboard after dinner. You will soon start to wake up feeling hungry. You can then introduce breakfast: a yoghurt and a banana, a cup of quick oats, even a small skinny cappuccino and an apple count – as long as it’s before 9am! Once you’ve got the hang of eating these quick and easy options, you can move onto more sustainable choices and set yourself up for a day of successful, healthy eating.
No more excuses! Start to train yourself to wake up hungry by picking one of these top brekkie choices.
Remember getting 15-20g of protein is key and will keep you satisfied for longer.
